In driving around our neighborhood, we spotted this gem of a house. It was in a frightful state of neglect, almost invisible from the street because of the overgrown bushes and trees. Our first thought was that it really needed a little TLC. We found out who owned it and asked them if they would be willing to sell it to us so that we could revive it. They were excited by the idea of being restored to its former glory.

The first job was to trim the greenery back enough to gain access and then to determine what had to be demolished and what could be saved.

We quickly came up with a plan and set to work. With the help of a carpenter, we were able to add on to the back of the house to replace the part that had to be demolished. Since we did most of the demolition ourselves and much of the interior work, progress was slow.

Finishing the inside, including he interior color selections, was lots of fun.

The project was ready in time for inspection by the Historic Aiken Foundation. They were pleased with what they saw and recognized us with an award for its restoration.
